Nextiva Alternatives Without Long Contracts
Nextiva alternatives compared for teams that want monthly terms: Callata, Ooma Office, Quo, Zoom Phone, RingCentral and Talkroute. Prices and trade-offs.
Short answer: If Nextiva's best prices are tied to a term you do not want to sign, the strongest month-to-month alternatives are Callata ($99 per month including five users, then $20 per extra user), Ooma Office ($19.95 to $29.95 per user, no contract), Quo ($19 per user), Zoom Phone ($18 per user with Workplace Basic), RingCentral ($30 per user monthly) and Talkroute (from $19 per plan). Each covers the calling and texting basics; they differ on recording, AI and how cost scales.
Prices are from each vendor's pricing page, checked October 1, 2026, and exclude taxes and fees.
The Nextiva pricing structure
Nextiva's small-business plans are Core ($15 per user annual, $23 monthly), Engage ($25 annual, $50 monthly) and Scale ($75). Nextiva says annual pricing applies to new customers with 1 to 100 employees signing a paid 12-month or longer minimum term. On Core, call recording, a toll-free number, online fax and CRM integrations are add-ons.
That is a fair deal for a stable team ready to commit. It is less attractive if you are a new business, expect headcount changes, or simply prefer not to be locked in. On monthly billing, the gap is large: Engage doubles from $25 to $50 per user.

1. Callata
Callata Office is $99 per month including five users, plus $20 per additional user, billed monthly with no contract. It includes up to three local numbers, unlimited inbound calling and 1,500 pooled outbound US and Canada minutes per user per month (then $0.01 per minute), a shared texting inbox, call recording with AI summaries, voicemail transcription with urgency triage, business-hours routing and E911. Optional AI agents answer and place calls at $0.25 per minute.
Versus Nextiva: from five users, cheaper than Core on monthly billing ($99 versus $115 for five, $199 versus $230 for ten); for one to four users Core monthly costs less. Recording is included rather than an add-on. Gaps: no toll-free, fax, video or desk phones. See Callata vs Nextiva.
2. Ooma Office
Ooma's self-serve plans are labeled "No Contract Necessary": Essentials $19.95, Pro $24.95 and Pro Plus $29.95 per user per month, with a one-time $29.95 activation fee. Each includes a free toll-free number with 500 inbound minutes.
Versus Nextiva: similar monthly price to Core, with recording on Pro and a toll-free number included. Gaps: texting caps and AI on Pro Plus only. See Ooma Office pricing explained.
3. Quo (formerly OpenPhone)
Quo Starter is $19 per user per month on monthly billing, with a number per user, US and Canada calling and texting, voicemail transcripts and the Sona AI agent. Business ($33 monthly) adds AI summaries for all calls and integrations.
Versus Nextiva: cheaper monthly price for an app-first team. Gaps: fewer office-phone features; texting fees apply ($19.50 one-time plus $1.50 to $3 monthly). See Quo pricing explained.
4. Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone with Workplace Basic is $18 per user monthly ($16 annually), with unlimited US and Canada calling, SMS and MMS, recording and post-call summaries.
Versus Nextiva: lower monthly price with recording and AI summaries included. Gaps: best value if your team already uses Zoom; extra numbers are $5 each. See Zoom Phone pricing explained.
5. RingCentral
RingEX Core is $30 per user on monthly billing ($20 annually). It has a deep feature set and integrations.
Versus Nextiva: a comparable platform; also discounts heavily for annual commitments, so it only fits a no-contract buyer willing to pay the monthly rate. See RingCentral pricing explained.
6. Talkroute
Talkroute prices per account with no contract: Basic $19 (1 user), Plus $39 (3 users) and Pro $59 (10 users), each with unlimited US and Canada minutes and a monthly text allowance. Pro includes recording and reporting.
Versus Nextiva: flat plan pricing up to the user limit, which keeps a small team's bill predictable. Gaps: $5 per extra user, number or mailbox beyond the plan. See Talkroute pricing explained.
Cost for a four-person team, no annual contract
| Provider | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Nextiva Core (monthly) | $92 |
| Nextiva Engage (monthly) | $200 |
| Ooma Office Pro | $99.80 |
| Quo Starter | $76 |
| Zoom Phone + Workplace Basic | $72 |
| RingCentral Core (monthly) | $120 |
| Talkroute Pro (up to 10 users) | $59 |
| Callata | $99 (5 users included) |
For a four-person team, Talkroute Pro is the cheapest option here, and Zoom Phone, Quo and Nextiva Core monthly also cost less than Callata. Talkroute's Pro covers up to 10 users and includes a toll-free option; Callata's $99 covers five users and adds AI summaries, voicemail triage and AI agents, with each extra user at $20.
Why contract length matters for small businesses
An annual term is a bet on your headcount and needs for the next 12 months. Small businesses often lose that bet in both directions: a team grows faster than planned and pays for upgrades mid-term, or a seasonal slowdown leaves paid seats unused. Month-to-month plans cost more per user on most per-user platforms, but they let you adjust each month.
Plans that bundle users change the calculation. Talkroute prices per account up to a user limit, and Callata's base price includes five users before per-user charges start, so there is less to forecast for a small team and a monthly plan carries little penalty. That is why bundled options such as Callata and Talkroute appear in this list alongside the per-user providers.
A useful rule of thumb: if you would save less than $20 per month by committing annually, the flexibility of a monthly plan is usually worth more. If the annual discount saves hundreds per month, as it does for larger teams on Nextiva Engage, the commitment can be worth it.
When Nextiva is still the right call
If you are confident in your headcount for a year or more and want Nextiva's broader customer experience features (live chat, chatbots, journey orchestration on Scale), its annual pricing is competitive. The alternatives above make the most sense for teams that value flexibility.
