Zoom Phone Alternatives Outside the Zoom Ecosystem

Zoom Phone alternatives for teams that don't need Zoom Workplace: Callata, Microsoft Teams Phone, Google Voice, Dialpad, Quo and RingCentral compared.

Short answer: Zoom Phone is good value if your team already meets in Zoom: its US and Canada Unlimited plan with Workplace Basic costs $18 per user monthly ($16 annually) with recording and AI summaries. If you live in other tools, the better fits are Microsoft Teams Phone (for Microsoft 365), Google Voice (for Google Workspace), Callata (a standalone system with five users included), Dialpad (AI-first), Quo (texting-first) or RingCentral (full platform).

Prices are from each vendor's pricing page, checked October 1, 2026, and exclude taxes and fees.

What Zoom Phone offers

Zoom Phone's core offer bundles phone service with a Zoom Workplace tier:

Bundle Monthly billing Annual billing
US & CA Unlimited + Workplace Basic $18/user $16/user
Pro Plus (Phone + Workplace Pro) $24/user $20.50/user
Business Plus (Phone + Workplace Business) $29/user $24.50/user

The base bundle includes a number, unlimited US and Canada calling, SMS and MMS, call recording, post-call summaries, voicemail prioritization and task extraction. Extra numbers cost $5 per month and unlimited international calling to 15+ countries is a $10 monthly add-on.

Why teams look elsewhere

  • Ecosystem fit. If your company uses Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, adding Zoom just for phones splits your tools.
  • Bundle overlap. Teams that already pay for Zoom Workplace separately need to check how a phone bundle interacts with existing licenses.
  • Per-user cost at scale. Twelve users on the base bundle cost $216 per month on monthly billing.

1. Microsoft Teams Phone

Teams Phone Standard is $10 per user per month on an annual subscription, plus a Teams license. To get a Microsoft number with minutes, US customers pay $13 per user (pay-as-you-go calling), $17 (Calling Plan with 3,000 domestic minutes) or $34 (domestic and international).

Versus Zoom Phone: the mirror-image choice for Microsoft 365 shops; calling lives inside Teams. Watch for: annual subscriptions and minute allowances instead of unlimited calling. See Microsoft Teams Phone pricing explained.

2. Google Voice

Google Voice Starter is $10 per user (up to 10 users), Standard $20 and Premier $30, plus Google Workspace from $7 per user. Standard adds auto attendants and Gemini call notes.

Versus Zoom Phone: cheaper for small Workspace teams; simpler routing. See Google Voice pricing explained.

3. Callata

Callata is a standalone phone system: $99 per month for up to five users, plus $20 per additional user. It includes up to three local numbers, unlimited inbound calling and 1,500 pooled outbound US and Canada minutes per user (then $0.01 per minute), a shared texting inbox (after a one-time $49 10DLC registration), call recording with AI summaries, voicemail transcription with urgency triage, ring groups, extensions, business-hours routing and E911. AI agents answer and place calls at $0.25 per minute.

Versus Zoom Phone: no suite to buy, but not cheaper: Zoom's base bundle costs less at every team size on list price ($90 for five users monthly vs $99, and $18 per extra user vs $20). Gaps: no meetings, no native app (browser plus ring-your-cell), no international calling. See Callata vs Zoom Phone.

4. Dialpad

Dialpad Connect Standard ($27 monthly, $15 annually) includes calling, messaging, video meetings and real-time AI transcription and summaries.

Versus Zoom Phone: includes its own meetings, so it can replace Zoom for calls and video together. See Dialpad pricing explained.

5. Quo (formerly OpenPhone)

Quo Starter ($19 monthly, $15 annually) gives each user a number with calling, texting, voicemail transcripts and the Sona AI agent.

Versus Zoom Phone: a lighter, texting-centered app for small teams. See Quo pricing explained.

6. RingCentral

RingEX Core ($30 monthly, $20 annually) includes calling, texting, video and AI Assistant features with a large integration catalog.

Versus Zoom Phone: broader platform and admin controls at a higher price. See RingCentral pricing explained.

Cost by team size (monthly billing where available)

Users Zoom Phone + Workplace Basic Teams Phone + Calling Plan (annual) Google Voice Starter + Workspace Callata
3 $54 $51 + Teams licenses $51 $99
6 $108 $102 + Teams licenses $102 $119
12 $216 $204 + Teams licenses Starter capped at 10 users; Standard $324 $239

Keeping Zoom for meetings, moving phones elsewhere

Plenty of companies keep Zoom for video while running phones on a different system. That can make sense when the people who answer customer calls are not the same people who spend the day in meetings, such as a front desk, dispatch team or field technicians. In that setup, the phone system should be judged on call handling, texting and after-hours coverage rather than on meeting integration.

If you go this way, check one thing: whether your current Zoom Phone licenses are bundled with the Workplace licenses you plan to keep. Cancelling the phone portion should not downgrade your meetings, but confirm with Zoom before you port numbers out.

What you give up by leaving Zoom Phone

Zoom Phone's base bundle is strong value: unlimited US and Canada calling, SMS and MMS, recording, AI post-call summaries, voicemail prioritization and task extraction for $18 per user on monthly billing. It also offers international calling add-ons and native desktop and mobile apps. Any alternative should be checked against those features, not just against price. Callata, for example, matches recording, summaries and voicemail triage and adds AI agents, but does not offer meetings, international calling or a native app.

Choosing by ecosystem

The most practical way to choose is to follow the tools your team already opens every day:

  • Zoom all day: stay with Zoom Phone.
  • Microsoft Teams all day: Teams Phone.
  • Gmail and Google Calendar all day: Google Voice.
  • No suite preference, small US team: Callata, Quo or Dialpad depending on budget, texting and AI needs.
  • Need enterprise depth: RingCentral.

Switching checklist

  • Check whether your Zoom Phone bundle is tied to a Workplace subscription you will keep.
  • Export recordings and voicemails.
  • Register for texting with the new provider.
  • Port numbers; keep Zoom Phone active until each port completes.
