Talkroute Alternatives: Plan-Priced and Per-User Options
Talkroute alternatives compared: Callata, Grasshopper, Quo, Ooma Office, Phone.com and MightyCall. Plan limits, per-user costs, texting and recording.
Short answer: Talkroute is one of the few phone services priced per account rather than per user ($19, $39 or $59 per month for 1, 3 or 10 users). Its closest alternative on pricing model is Grasshopper ($14 to $55 per month, billed annually). Callata is a hybrid ($99 per month with five users included, then $20 per additional user) that costs more than Talkroute but adds AI summaries and per-minute AI agents. If you are open to per-user pricing, Quo, Ooma Office, Phone.com and MightyCall offer other strengths.
Prices are from each vendor's pricing page, checked October 1, 2026, and exclude taxes and fees.
Talkroute's plans in brief
| Basic | Plus | Pro | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $19/mo | $39/mo | $59/mo | Custom |
| Users included | 1 | 3 | 10 | 20+ |
| Numbers | 1 | 2 | 3 | 10+ |
| Texts per month | 500 | 2,000 | 5,000 | Custom |
| Phone menus | None | 1 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Call recording | No | No | Yes | Yes |
Every plan includes unlimited US and Canada minutes, call forwarding and routing, desktop, mobile and web apps, 24/7 US and Canada based support, video meetings for up to 100 participants, and Zapier, webhook and API access. Extra users, numbers or mailboxes cost $5 per month each, and the AI Receptionist and bulk texting are separate add-on plans. Pro can include a BAA for HIPAA.
Why look at alternatives
- User caps. Pro covers 10 users; an 11th costs $5 more, and growing teams eventually hit Enterprise pricing.
- Recording only on Pro. Basic and Plus have no call recording.
- Text allowances. Plans include a set number of texts per month.
- AI as an add-on. The AI Receptionist is a separate plan.
None of these is a dealbreaker on its own. Talkroute's 24/7 US and Canada based support and its HIPAA option on Pro are genuine strengths, and many small teams stay for years. The alternatives below are for teams whose needs have moved past what their current plan covers.

1. Callata
Callata suits a Talkroute customer who wants AI built into the phone system. One plan at $99 per month covers five users, with $20 for each additional user, up to three local numbers, unlimited inbound calling and 1,500 pooled outbound US and Canada minutes per user (then $0.01 per minute), a shared texting inbox (after a one-time $49 10DLC registration), call recording with AI summaries, voicemail transcription with urgency triage, ring groups, extensions and business-hours routing. AI agents answer and place calls at $0.25 per minute.
Versus Talkroute Pro: Talkroute is cheaper. Pro is $59 for up to 10 users, while Callata is $99 for up to five and $199 for ten. Callata's case is AI summaries on recorded calls, voicemail urgency triage and AI agents billed at $0.25 per minute from the first minute, with no monthly AI plan. Gaps: no toll-free numbers, no video meetings, no native mobile app and no BAA. See Callata vs Talkroute.
2. Grasshopper
Grasshopper also prices per plan: True Solo $14, Solo Plus $25 and Small Business $55 per month, billed annually. Solo Plus and Small Business allow unlimited users sharing extensions. Texting needs a $19.50 registration and $1.50 per month.
Versus Talkroute: cheaper and simpler, focused on forwarding calls to cell phones with a professional menu. See Grasshopper pricing explained.
3. Quo (formerly OpenPhone)
Quo Starter is $19 per user monthly ($15 annually), Business $33 ($23). Every user gets a number with calling, texting and voicemail transcripts; Business adds AI summaries and integrations.
Versus Talkroute: a polished app with strong texting, but the bill rises with every user. See Quo pricing explained.
4. Ooma Office
Ooma Office runs $19.95 to $29.95 per user per month with no contract, including a free toll-free number and desk phone options.
Versus Talkroute: better for offices with desk phones; texting is capped (250 per month on Pro). See Ooma Office pricing explained.
5. Phone.com
Phone.com Basic is $18 per user monthly, Plus $27 and Pro $40, with 17% off annually. You can mix plans by user, and recording is an $8 add-on below Pro.
Versus Talkroute: flexible per-role pricing, video and fax included. See Phone.com pricing explained.
6. MightyCall
MightyCall Core is $20 per user annually with a three-user minimum, including recording, IVR, call queues and three numbers.
Versus Talkroute: more call-center features at a per-user price. See MightyCall pricing explained.
Cost by team size
| Users | Talkroute | Grasshopper | Callata | Quo Starter (monthly) | Ooma Office Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $19 (Basic) | $14 (True Solo, annual) | $99 | $19 | $24.95 |
| 3 | $39 (Plus) | $25 (Solo Plus, annual) | $99 | $57 | $74.85 |
| 10 | $59 (Pro) | $55 (Small Business, annual) | $199 | $190 | $249.50 |
| 15 | $84 (Pro + 5 users) | $55 (Small Business, annual) | $299 | $285 | $374.25 |
Talkroute and Grasshopper are the low-cost leaders at every team size shown. At 1 to 3 users, Callata is the most expensive option in the table. At 10 and 15 users, Callata costs slightly more than Quo Starter and less than Ooma Office Pro, but far more than Talkroute or Grasshopper.
Why plan pricing is worth keeping
Talkroute customers usually chose it for one reason: the bill does not jump every time someone joins. That matters for small businesses with part-time staff, seasonal help or owners who answer only occasionally. Per-user providers charge for each of those people, even if they take a handful of calls a month.
If that predictability is what you value, narrow your shortlist to plan-priced options first (staying on Talkroute, or Grasshopper), and only consider per-user providers if they offer something you cannot get otherwise, such as desk phones, toll-free numbers or call-center supervision.
