What Line2 is
Line2 gives you a second phone number on the phone you already own. Its pricing page opens with "Your real number stays yours. Forever," and describes the product as protection for your personal number: pick a number, download the app, and use it for business or anything else you want to keep separate. Line2 has been around for years as a second-line app, and its plans reflect that: pricing is per line, not per company.

Line2's general feature list includes SMS and MMS, call blocking (including whole area codes), call screening with a pre-recorded greeting, voicemail transcription and recordings, call forwarding and caller ID. The plan cards list call recording, voicemail transcription and advanced reporting specifically on Business.
Starter
Starter covers the basics for a business line: a local or toll-free number, unlimited calls and texts, and basic call forwarding. It is the plan most solo professionals need.
Growth
Growth adds an auto-attendant, so callers can press a key to reach a department or person, and a call scheduler. It suits a one-person business that wants to sound larger.
Business
Business adds call recording, voicemail transcriptions and advanced reporting. It is the plan for someone who needs a record of client calls.
The overage note
Line2 marks its unlimited plans with an asterisk: "Unlimited plans are subject to overages as described in our Terms of Service." That is common in the industry; unlimited calling plans assume normal person-to-person usage. If you expect very heavy calling, read the terms before you sign up.
What it costs for more than one person
Line2 is priced per line. Each person who needs their own number needs their own plan.
| Lines | Starter (monthly) | Starter (annual) | Business (monthly) | Business (annual) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $15.99 | $13.75 | $25.99 | $21.83 |
| 2 | $31.98 | $27.50 | $51.98 | $43.66 |
| 3 | $47.97 | $41.25 | $77.97 | $65.49 |
| 5 | $79.95 | $68.75 | $129.95 | $109.15 |
Each line is a separate number and inbox. There is no shared team inbox, ring group across lines or shared texting history.
Line2 also lists a sales line staffed Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 8pm Eastern, for questions before you buy.
How to save on Line2
- Pay annually. Annual billing saves about 14% on the business plans and $24 a year on the basic plan.
- Pick the lowest plan that covers your must-haves. If you do not need recording, Starter or Growth saves $5 to $10 a month per line.
- Use the 30-day guarantee. Test call quality and texting on your own phone before the guarantee window ends.
- Do not buy lines for occasional helpers. Forward calls to them instead, where your plan supports forwarding.
Line2 against other single-user business numbers
If you are shopping for one business number on your own phone, Line2 competes with several other apps and services. Here are their published entry prices, checked October 1, 2026.
| Option | Entry price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Line2 Starter | $15.99/mo, or $13.75/mo billed annually | Local or toll-free number, unlimited US and Canada calls and texts |
| Line2 basic second number | $9.99/mo, or $7.99/mo billed annually | Private second number |
| Sideline | $14.49/mo, or $129.99/yr | Calls over your carrier network; voicemail-to-text sold separately |
| Google Voice Starter (individual) | $10/mo | Adds support, call recording and desk phone support over the free tier |
| Grasshopper True Solo | $14/mo billed annually | One number, one extension, business texting with registration fees |
Line2's distinguishing features at its price are the toll-free option, call screening and the auto-attendant on Growth. Google Voice's free Basic tier is cheaper still if you can accept its limits. Grasshopper's Solo Plus and Small Business plans cover several users on one plan, which can suit a two- or three-person team better than buying separate Line2 lines.
Who Line2's pricing suits
Line2 is excellent value for one person: a consultant, landlord, coach, tradesperson or side-business owner who wants a business or private number on their existing phone without carrying a second device. The ability to pick a toll-free number at the same price is a plus.
It is less suited to a team. Once three or more people need to answer the same business number, separate per-person lines stop working well: calls reach whoever owns the number, and texts sit in one person's app.
Line2 compared with a team phone system
Callata is built for teams. It costs $99 per month including five users, plus $20 per month for each additional user, and includes up to three local numbers that the whole team shares, unlimited inbound calling and a pooled allowance of 1,500 outbound US and Canada minutes per user per month (then $0.01 per minute), ring groups, extensions, business-hours routing, a shared texting inbox (after a one-time $49 carrier registration), call recording with AI summaries, voicemail transcription with urgency triage, and E911 on every number. Optional AI agents answer and place calls at $0.25 per minute.
| People | Line2 Business (monthly) | Callata Office |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $25.99 | $99 |
| 3 | $77.97 | $99 |
| 6 | $155.94 | $119 |
For one to three people, Line2 is the cheaper and simpler option. From four people who need recording, Callata costs less than Line2 Business ($99 against $103.96) and keeps conversations with the business. If you only need Line2 Starter, separate lines cost less than Callata at every team size on list price ($79.95 for five lines against $99), so the case for a shared system there rests on shared numbers, ring groups and a shared inbox rather than price. Callata does not offer toll-free numbers, so if a toll-free number on your cell matters, Line2 has the edge there.
